The Photography of Vivian Maier

by Ken HarmanPosted on

In 2007, Chicago based photographer John Maloof made an unexpected and historic discovery at auction, a storage locker packed with thousands of photographs by an unknown and impoverished nanny, Vivian Maier. For over thirty years, Maier tirelessly documented the streets around her, photographing daily life in Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, Bangkok, Beijing, Egypt and more with her trusty Rolleiflex.

Three years after her death, the first comprehensive exhibition of her work will be seeing the light of day at Merry Karnowsky Gallery in Los Angeles. Hosted by actor Tim Roth, ‘Vivian Maier: A Life Discovered’ will open Saturday, January 7th and will feature many of her original vintage photos, a book release and also previously unseen home documentaries and audio recordings. Hi-Fructose has acquired several exclusive first-looks at this expansive and historic body of work, get a look below.
