Art Basel Miami 2011: Basel Castle

by CaroPosted on

When Art Basel began to wrap up on Saturday night, the place to let loose was Basel Castle. If the huge crowd was any indication, Basel Castle is the fair’s preferred one-night party stop organized by The Overthrow creative collective. This year featured hand-painted carnival games, art exhibition, and live painting by Sam Flores, Greg Mike, Beau Stanton, and Sharktoof. Sharktoof ran out of wall space, then continued to paint on an onlooking fan’s back. If you weren’t on the Wynwood scene this week, it was a great opportunity to watch these artists.

Inside, the Castle’s mini-gallery sold artwork and merch by artists Ron English, Buff Monster, Claw Money, Mark Bode, Sean Desmond, Oliver Black, and more from Tott Global. Outside, the party crowd was entertained with live DJ sets by Brooklyn’s post-punks The Rapture and Yelawolf, on Eminem’s Shady Records label. Participating Basel, Scope, Pulse, and surrounding exhibiting artists, curators, and their friends were all in attendance to celebrate another busy year in Miami. – Caro
