Pictoplasma NYC 2011

This past weekend, the Berlin based Pictoplasma project returned to NYC for thethird US incarnation of its internationally acclaimed conference and festival ofcontemporary character design and art. Held at Parson’s Tishman Auditoriumon November 4th and 5th, the conference presented a marathon series of lectures,panels and presentations by some of the leading artists and designers ofcontemporary character visualization. I had the opportunity to sit in on lectures byJoel Trussell, Geneviève Gauckler, Wooster Collective, Jeremyville and more.

Accompanying the Pictoplasma NYC Conference was also a Character Walk,which featured a program of exhibitions, installations, performances, parties andart happenings throughout New York City. I got a chance to check out events atBold Hype, Jonathan Levine Gallery and Lit Lounge. Also featured at this year’sconference was a presentation of feature length ‘Characters in Motion’ screeningsthat showcased innovative projects in animation, motion graphics, music videos andexperimental work.
