It was three times the charm for Beyond Eden last weekend. The multi-galleryevent celebrated its third year at LA Municpal Art Gallery at Barnsdall Park, highlighting the best of LA’s contemporary art scene. Participating galleries C.A.V.E.,Copro, Nucleus, Spoke Art, La Luz de Jesus, Toy Art Gallery, and Thinkspace eachcurated intertwining exhibitions with an exclusive preview of shows to come. Inaddition to the work on display, opening night honored Anthony Ausgang with alifetime achievement award. Ausgang is widely considered a “pioneer of Lowbrow ”for his surrealistic- cartoon inspired paintings, which got mass attention last yearfrom his MGMT album art. Among too many artists to name were Chet Zar, LukeChueh, Yosuke Ueno, Arkiv, Skibs, Junko Mizuno, Dan Quintana- and local artistEuth, who presented a showcase of emerging graffiti artists in Los Angeles. In themedia room, Sketch Theater screened their “Best of” time-lapsed videos of artistssketching from start to finish. Although the exhibitors are separated by individualstyles and crop of artists, the vibe at Beyond Eden was that of an ambitiouscollaboration.
