‘East Weets Mest’, the latest showing by NYC-based Japanese artist Tomokazu Matsuyama at Joshua Liner Gallery. For his second showing at the esteemed Chelsea gallery, Matsuyama turns the tides and inspects the relationship between the cultural divide and the influences that are drawn between both. Appropriating traditional Japanese imagery and inserting contemporary Western practices, and vice versa, Matsuyama provides a colorful and didactic examination of his cultural background, it’s influences, and its inevitable future.
