“Smoke and Mirrors” New Works by Deth P. Sun

by CaroPosted on

Last weekend, Giant Robot’s GR2 gallery in Los Angeles debuted new artwork by Bay area artist Deth P. Sun. Giant Robot and Deth have a long history, having inspired each other and their fans together over the years. Recalling the wild illustrations of Maurice Sendak, surreal landscapes of Terry Gilliam, and heavily influenced by David Attenborough, Deth P. Sun’s “Smoke and Mirrors” series seeks to create a new fantasy. The series includes some of Deth’s larger acrylic and ink artworks to date, filled with masses of black lunar sky and dense forests. Symbolizing the artist’s own world experiences, Deth’s cat characters live in a place where hope shines in dark places and adventure lurks around every corner. Whether sailing across the sea, floating in space, or fast asleep in their beds, the smokey dreams of Deth P. Sun’s characters tell a never ending story. “Smoke and Mirrors” by Deth P. Sun exhibits at Giant Robot’s GR2 Gallery, Los Angeles, CA, from August 27 – September 21st, 2011. – Caro
