Harma Heikens’ ‘Welcome To The Jungle’

Dutch sculptress Harma Heikens (Vol 13) returns this monthwith a new body of work, ‘Welcome To The Jungle’ at NYC’s Witzenhausen Gallery. The nearly life size sculptures feature her potent trademark synthesis ofinnocent, wide eyed children and horrific themes such as war, murder and sexualexploitation. By choosing to encapsulate these themes in the small, cherubicbodies of children, the work radiates a complex yet unsettling sense of taboojuxtaposed with a bright, cheery color palette. This visceral contrast provokes theviewer, whether as an emotional, moral challenge or as a disturbance of an innate political stance. Take a look at more of the new work after the jump.
