The Art of Jessica McCourt

Artist Jessica McCourt’s world, filled with mercurial, voluptuous figures, illuminates the strange eloquence and mystery of the supernatural. Her witchy, feminine subjects often appear as nudes or disembodied heads with bulbous hair, ruddy cheeked and bold, as if the viewer is spying on them in the act of ritual or in a moment of a supernatural trance. Executed in a hazy, dreamlike color palette, the work appears incandescent with the soft glow of the medium choice, adding another visceral layer to the haunting themes explored in each composition. Take a look at more after the jump.

Less than two years ago, New Mexico painter Anthony Hurd completely changed the subject matter depicted in his paintings, focusing on themes which related to the artist on a more personal level.
