Allyson Mellberg’s Lotus Eaters

by JL SchnabelPosted on

For her first solo debut in France at Galerie L.J., artist Allyson Mellberg arrives equipped with her signature cast of abnormal yet alluring characters, each with clipped hair and interacting with gelatinous, grotesque elements that spring up within her world. The figures seem to be ritualizing themselves with these alien elements, offering them objects of friendship or buckling beneath their cosmic influence. The world appears foreign and yet familiar, as the alien elements encircle and attempt to merge with the stoic females, creating an unsettling tension within the work.
