Since creating the first spray paint specifically forartists in 1994, Montana Colors has made giving back to the graffiti and streetart community its mission. In an effort to unite artists with the public andone another, the company sponsors local events almost weekly in its home-base,Barcelona, in addition to providing paint for exhibitions and gatheringsworldwide, like the ambitious graffiti extravaganza “Art in the Streets” at theMuseum of Contemporary Art in L.A.
The murals that cover the Montana factory, located just outsideof Barcelona, echo this creative spirit. Something of a history painting,Brazilian artists Os Gemeos and Nina’s enormous character-based work alludes tomilestone events for the company—such as its fight against plagiarizingcompetitors and the fire that destroyed its old factory in 2002. French artistsDran, Bom.K and Sowat’s collaborative work on an adjacent building combinesabstraction and a playful, childlike aesthetic to pay homage to graffiticulture. Nastia Voynovskaya of Hi-Fructose surveys the Montana murals below.
