The Collages of Sienna Freeman

Keenly aware of the tenuous complexities of reflecting onthe past and personal memories, artist and curator Sienna Freeman assemblesseamless collages exploring the transient terrain of the self. This explorationfocuses on the surreal, multi-limbed and anthropomorphic figures she forms using her own photographs and drawingsas well as appropriated materials culled from outside sources. Unlike othercontemporary collage work, hers are sheltered in thick resin, creating acurious levitation of the hybrid and sexualized figures within the translucent material. Theeffect of this installation choice casts eerie shadows on the walls of thegallery, furthering the unsettling nature of her psychological themes.
