The Collages of Sienna Freeman

by JL SchnabelPosted on

Keenly aware of the tenuous complexities of reflecting on the past and personal memories, artist and curator Sienna Freeman assembles seamless collages exploring the transient terrain of the self. This exploration focuses on the surreal, multi-limbed and anthropomorphic figures she forms using her own photographs and drawings as well as appropriated materials culled from outside sources. Unlike other contemporary collage work, hers are sheltered in thick resin, creating a curious levitation of the hybrid and sexualized figures within the translucent material. The effect of this installation choice casts eerie shadows on the walls of the gallery, furthering the unsettling nature of her psychological themes. Her new body of work, ‘Broken Mirror’ opens March 4th at Bambi Gallery.
