Robin William’s Rescue Party

by JL SchnabelPosted on

Opening tonight at NYC’s P-P-O-W gallery is ‘Rescue Party’, a solo show of new work by artist Robin Williams. The large, atmospheric and brightly hued oil paintings feature a cast of adolescent, pale skinned characters on the cusp of adulthood. By choosing to focus on this time of internal metamorphosis, the characters appear otherworldly and slightly surreal as they gaze at unseen objects or appear lost in thought, disconnected from their external landscapes.

The work also displays a vibrant kinetic energy; the subjects undertake laborious tasks or partake in childish games such as staring contests and dress up, further illuminating the elastic veil between the lazy pleasures of childhood and the responsibilities of adulthood.
