Sanrio’s Small Gift – Los Angeles

by Emi TamaruPosted on

“I was fortunate enough to get into Sanrio’s 50th Anniversary show and party at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica. It was truly a interesting experience to see all the Sanrio characters I grew up with as a child come to life in art work, ferris wheels, arcade games, and so much more. However, the highlight has to be the art show, where various artists incorporated popular Sanrio characters into their pieces; while some artists took the option to portray the characters as-is and stayed loyal to the original character design, some took it to a further step, where the Sanrio characters were interpreted though their styles, and almost became their own original characters. “Audrey Kawasaki, Junko Mizuno, Natalia Fabia, Joe Ledbetter and Gary Baseman were a handful of the many artists, as well as Japanese “Sand artist” Naoshi, who exhibited original pieces as well.” – Emi Tamaru
