Studio Visit with Emma Tooth

by Ken HarmanPosted on

Our good friend Sven over at Arrested Motion recently conducted a studio visit with UK fine artist Emma Tooth as the master painter prepares for her upcoming museum show at the Derby Museum and Art Gallery. Tooth’s ongoing series, “Consilium Plebis”, takes on ordinary andeveryday subjects, painting them in a masterful and extraordinary way. The artist’s use of “chavs”, “hoodys”, “scallys” (and even randomsubjects off the street), makes her a perfect, albeit somewhatshocking, partner to show alongside English portraitist Joseph Wright of Derby, who’s works often feature common subjects and will accompany hers inthe upcoming museum show. Keep an eye out later this year for a soloshow at Lazarides, and in the meantime check out the artist’s studioand some process pics below.
