Painting Brazil’s Favelas

by Ken HarmanPosted on

Dutch duo Haas and Hahn (Jeroen Koolhaas and Dre Urhahn) recentlycompleted another large scale mural project in Brazil. Entitled “OMorro”, which roughly translates to “the hill” (a synonym for the localslums and favelas), the third in the Favela Paintingproject looks to have been a success with thirty four houses (seventhousand square meters) painted in a multi-colored and candy-stripedrainbow pattern. The design, inherently simple, allows the duo the possibility ofexpanding the colors onto the neighboring buildings in Rio, a fundraising mission for which the two artists are currently embarked upon. View some additional pictures as well as a lookat the pair’s two earlier works below.
