To celebrate the start of the sweltering New York City summer, Brooklynite Gallery is bringing two UK artists to New York for their upcoming show, “Surface Tension”. While stylistically the two artists, Guy Denning and David Walker, vary in considerable ways, the theme of the show unites these two portraitists against greater outside forces, much as Newtonian physics would dictate. Denning’s dark portraits of anguish and violence create a tension so rife that it seemingly engulfs the viewer, while Walker’s loose and colorful works are subject to their own tension, this time between art and artist as David has restricted his use of medium to only spray paint. “Surface Tension” opens Saturday, June 12th 2010.
