Dr. Sketchy’s: Art Star Series Travis Louie

by Hi-Fructose StaffPosted on

Manhattan’s legendary Slipper Room was the site of some unusual sightings last Saturday night at Dr. Sketchy’s saucy drawing salon which takes place every other Saturday. The April 24th event hosted a special Art Star series with artist Travis Louie and featuring the “chameleonic” Amber Ray burlesque performer as the model. In this session she is transformed by special FX team, Body of Art, into a creature resembling Travis Louie’s beautiful monster portraits.

A little background: Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Artshcool is the brainchild of artist Molly Crabapple, each live drawing session invites people to come and sketch. But this isn’t your everyday life drawing class – “scandalous performers as models,” skits and music as well as some pretty crazy contests keep things pretty… titilating. Started it 2005 this event  now, with co-host John Leavitt and a dedicated troop of accomplices, has since gained momentum and spread to over eighty cities and four continents. Next week in fact, will be the 2nd annual Sketchycon… more on that later with our interview with Miss Molly in the coming days. Hi-Fructose collaborator Aaron Tompkins was there to snap a few photos…
