The Trompe L’oeil of Alexa Meade

23-year-old Washington, DC based artist Alexa Meade creates optical illusion based installations and photographs in the trompe l'oeil style. A technique dating back to ancient Greece, trompe l'oeil (literally, "trick the eye") has seen a more modern resurgence with Joanne Gair's Disappearing Model and the anonymous "Ghost Man". By painting her subjects in thick layers of acrylic paint, Meade blurs the lines between art, photography and installation. More photos here.
