I think it’s the combination of scale and innocent Playmobil-like approach the makes the sculptures of Tom Otterness so effective. Whether it’s a startling sculpture like the one above entitled “Immigrant Family” or his public pieces on the housing crisis, or an amazing approach to a children’s playground, Otterness knows how to provoke feeling whether you wouldn’t suspect there would be one.
