Kevin Cyr at White Walls Gallery

I met up with Kevin Cyr (HF Vol. 10) to get some pre-show flicks before the opening of Temporal Surfaces, the 2-person show with Jessica Hess I curated for White Walls Gallery. It was such a treat to work with both artists and things couldn’t have gone more smoothly from start to finish. It was nice to have a chance to chat with Cyr in the serene space of the gallery before the droves arrived for the opening. This body of work amazes in person and it comes as no surprise that Kevin has seen an enormous amount of publicity and accolades over the show. Temporal Surfaces includes pieces executed by Cyr that explore his subject matter through a range of techniques and mediums: oil paintings on wooden panels, pieces combining oil painting and silkscreen, photography, and hand-painted 3-Dimensional die-cast models. Each work portrays Cyr’s derelict vehicular subjects – the work horses of blue collar, industrial life – with colorful realism and portrait-like reverence. Temporal Surfaces runs at White Walls Gallery through March 27, 2010.
