by Annie OwensPosted on

Swooning at the River of Oblivion, Jenny Bird Alcantara’s (HF Vol.14 feature) solo show opens tonight – January 8th, 2010 – at La Luz de Jesus Gallery featuring new oils on wood, acrylic on paper and her beautifully ornamental dolls made of new and vintage felted wool, paper clay and found objects.

“My work has, at its core a narrative,” says Jenny. “I like to explore the complex interconnectedness of opposites as seen through the prism of myth, fable and fantasy. I use the symbolism of duality to explore the connection of life and death, as well as the relationship between the beauty and cruelness of nature, that of the natural world as well as human and animal nature. Artist reception starts at 8pm, show runs through January 31st. Also opening tonight is George Thomas’ The Best Cars of Our Lives.
