The Chris Berens show “Go West” last Friday (12.12.08) was truly a sight to behold. Chris’ new collection of paintings for his show at Roq La Rue Gallery were nearly sold out by the time we arrived. As cold as it was for Seattle this year, we wouldn’t have missed this show for the world. Kirsten Anderson, owner of Roq La Rue initially turned us on to the Netherland artist this past year when she suggested him for a feature in Volume 9.
In this collection, the element of water and ocean life prevail, angelic jellyfish abound. Like a heavenly undertow, the large scale paintings sweep the viewer off their feet. You can’t help but fall in love with the imagery. Click here for further reading about the work in the show, or pick up Hi-Fructose Volume 9 to read Kirsten Anderson’s in-person interview with the artist.
