The Wondermental – New Works by Lola

The Wondermental, new works by Lola opens tonight, Saturday October 25th at the Corey Helford Gallery in Culver City, California.a.

Lola’s new work is especially poignant and brilliantly executed. Her atmospherically dark imagery are fairy tales and fables encapuslated on canvas.

Lola pexplains it all, plus a small slice of some of tonight’s show….

“The new body of work elucidates a sort of narrative about a boy who was created by his parents to be the perfect boy-but only in their eyes. One night a lady bug gets into his room (he has never even seen a bug) and that starts the curiosity… which starts the concept for the entire body of work.

Most of the pieces revolve around having confidence in exploring, and educating ourselves. The bugs represent teachers, and the animals were the ones to pass down the wisdom to the bugs…

I wanted to send a message of selflessness and forward thinking, and that even though we all feel isolated and disconnected, it’s ok to go outside of our comfort zones because each new experience is a gift that only makes us wiser. have you ever read the miraculous journey of edward tulane? thatalong with lewis carroll gave me that jolt of excitement when i first started the work…”
