She has just begun a new series entitled "Mascaras," and being fresh off the road, has been inspired to release a set of postcards for your own traveling correspondences. When I hopped into the the White Rabbit Lounge with all Alice in Wonderland characters prancing through my mind, to the tune of Jefferson Airplane psychedelia, I was rather disappointed to find the patrons were not dripping from their stools. The bar was set at a disappointingly predictable 90 angle, and save for the odd patron who may have had too much, those seated at it were too. No hookah smoking caterpillars or men on the chessboard getting up to tell me where to go.

However, someone was paying homage to the Red Queen and her famous utterance, "Off with her head!"

As Los Angeles-based gallery Rivera and Rivera gear up to relocate spaces in the coming weeks, they'll be hosting a one-night only event later this evening (Thursday, July 29th) featuring an installation by LA street artist Retna.  Following Retna's heavily publicized trip to the Art Basel: Switzerland Volta fair alongside collaborators El Mac, Kofie One, and Mear One, as well as recent murals in Culver City and on Skid Row, the street artist's repertoire takes another step forward (or outward we should say), as his latest installation extends into three dimensional space extending from the floor, ceiling and walls.

Following a quick tour of San Diego's recent street art explosion (see previous post), Hi-Fructose paid a visit to the epicenter of it all with a trip down to the MCASD.  A heavy hitting exposition, Viva La Revolucion is a cross sectioning of the best international street artists working today.  With video and sound installations by JR and David Ellis, Faile's arcade games, Banksy print retrospective, Dzine custom cruisers, a towering Swoon piece and much, much more, the show serves as a great introduction to the world of contemporary street art, a feat that not only showcases the best of the best, but also (and most importantly), maintains the integrity of the outdoors in an indoor museum setting.  View a selection of our favorite works, after the jump.

After posting Adam Rozan's recent coverage of the Viva La Revolucion opening at MCASD, Hi-Fructose simply had to check out the street-art museum show in person while visiting San Diego for Comic Con.  In addition to the exhibition at the museum, Viva La Revolucion features an extensive outdoor campaign of street art from many of the exhibiting (and some non-exhibiting) artists.  Check out detailed photos of two of our favorite outdoor pieces, by Os Gemeos and Shepard Fairey (HF Vol. 11), after the jump.
