Studio Visit with David Choong Lee
Written by Ken    Wednesday, 11 August 2010 20:11

Hi-Fructose Magazine contributing photographer Shaun Roberts recently paid a visit to the studio of David Choong Lee as the artist was putting the finishing touches on his latest body of work, "Acquiring Signal".  Lee's latest has taken a more geometric turn, swirling multi-colored building blocks travel through and between his paintings; the splashes of color and shape rearranging themselves upon arrival to each canvas.  To make his work and show concept more analogous, Lee has been painting his works on found wooden boxes, stacking them up in his downtown San Francisco studio, then breaking them down and trucking them to Culver City, where he is currently in the process of rebuilding them in new configurations, much like as a data packet acts in transit over a digital network.  "Acquiring Signal" opens this Saturday night at LeBasse Projects.  Get an exclusive look at the artist's new body of work, here on Hi-Fructose.

San Francisco based artist, Eric Joyner, opens his latest solo show "Donut Logic" at Corey Helford later this weekend.  Exploring the mutually exclusive themes of both robots and donuts, two of the more modern inventions that have captivated mankind since their inception, Joyner often times combines the two in subtle ways (see Capt. Kirk eating a donut on the television as a robot watches in Joyner's "Mesmerized".)  Joyner sent us a comprehensive preview of his new show, many images of which haven't been seen elsewhere, check them out after the jump!
