This year's rendition of SCOPE Miami Beach, coinciding with Miami Art Week festivities, features many galleries that will be familiar to Hi-Fructose readers as well as dozens of artists who have appeared in our print issues. An enormous installation by Swoon featuring a cut-out portrait of a majestic woman charging triumphantly forward greets viewers as they enter the fair, ushering them into the many collections of figurative, Pop Art-inspired, and streetwise art that lies ahead.
Looking toward Hi-Fructose's 14th year in publishing, the atrium at SCOPE Miami Beach (Dec. 4-9) will host three installation projects from the HOT TEA, Okuda San Miguel, and AJ Fosik. In the below Q&A, we talked to one of those artists, HOT TEA, about the evolution of his installation practice, traveling the world, and what he plans for the fair.
Hi-Fructose readers need no introduction to the plethora of artists and galleries that were featured in this year's installment of SCOPE Miami Beach. Known as the biggest worldwide professional show of modern art, 2015 marked the fair's 15th anniversary. Despite heavy rains and winds that led to water seeping into the fair's signature white tent, attendance was higher than ever- roughly 49,000 attended compared to last year's 45,000 attendees. Madrid-based artists Remed and Okuda teamed up recently for the Streets of Colour mural series, which took them as far south as Miami and as far north as Toronto and Oslo. Okuda's work is much more figurative, presenting forms in geometric arrangements akin to Cubist portraits with splashes of neon. Meanwhile, Remed's work is decidedly abstract, layering flat, simplified shapes and playing with arrangements of vivid colors. For Streets of Colour, the two artists seemed to fuse their styles seamlessly. The final stop of the tour was the Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art where they collaborated on a wall with Norwegian artist Tune Emblemsvag. Check out some highlights from their mural tour after the jump.
