Robert Nelson‘s blends of pop flavor and art history are rendered in graphite and acrylic paints. The artist works in contrasts, pitting elegance and grotesqueness, stark patterns and fluid lines, against each other. The artist’s work has recently been shown at spots throughout the West Coast.
“Some develop a world view through acquisition of unbiased knowledge, but the world view of many is pre-ordained by culture, or manipulated by institutions,” the artist says. “The world today is striking in its defined sides. How can there be such distinct good and bad in the world while most, in their heart, are on the side of good? I’m interested in contrast; innocence/corruption, the infinite/the finite, past/future, good/evil. It’s fascinating how meanings can change depending on point of view. I strive for images that are defined differently by each observer. An image where their experiences, prejudices and beliefs all combine into the final experience of the work.”

Gabriel Barredo’s meticulous mixed-media sculptures and installations are made using found objects. The artist’s pieces are at times created to move, their writhing interworkings appearing both organic and mechanical in nature. Works like "Madamadam" (top), startle even in their stillness.
For his most recent exhibition, Those Bloody Colours, presented at Galerie Eigen + Art in Berlin, Martin Eder featured lifelike paintings of women in a medieval time warp. Eder's artworks are scaled true to life and rendered in vivid tones, imbuing them with a tactile and emotive quality with which one immediately connects. Gazing at the eyes of the women, cast downward as if in humble contemplation after battle, one desires the warriors to look up and out.
Instinctual Feast is the latest series by 
Yuji Moriguchi's creature-filled paintings play with the sensibilities and tropes of manga and Ukiyo-e. Elsewhere in the artist’s work, he pulls on the thread of erotic art that has coursed through Japanese comic history. His recent work seems to take on a decidedly mystical tone.
