“My paintings are my mythology,” Rea has said. “The surreal spectacles are staged fiction spawned from my imagination and the manipulation of photographic references, yet are very much emotionally influenced by my day-to-day life. The figures in my paintings (usually myself and my wife) move from scene to scene like the main characters of a book or film. They experience the full emotional spectrum of our coexistence as human beings and also make real the thoughts often hidden in the depths of all our private minds.”

When London based artist Dene Leigh's grandfather suffered a stroke, it left him unable to recognize faces, objects and words- pieces to the puzzle of our vision that he puts back together again in his paintings and assemblages of objects.
The strain of imaginary realism found in Carrie Pearce’s oil paintings calls upon both 16th-century masters and the drawing style of the children she’s depicting. The artist says she creates "emotional portraits," rather than just portraits of people. She says her paintings are "aimed to entertain you and convey events real or imagined through images, improvisation and embellishment."
"A Student's Dream," the central oil painting in Mario Moore's new show, is inspired by the artist's recent surgery to remove a benign brain tumor. "Recovery" kicks off at David Klein Gallery in Detroit at the end of the month, and in the show, the artist looks at how African-American men experience recovery from hardship and trauma.
Toronto-based artist Kyle Stewart crafts oil paintings that blend introspection and a relationship to place. He created the above oil painting for the upcoming group show “Nexus,” arriving at Thinkspace Gallery on Nov. 5 and running through Jan. 7. Much of the artist’s work tackles themes of memories and changing backdrops. In particular, you can see how Stewart remembers a rural existence and the tension of reconciling a newer existence in the city.
