The Disturbing Animal-Human Paintings of Nicola Alessandrini

by Danny OldaPosted on

Whether of found imagery or painted on paper or walls, artist Nicola Alessandrini operates in collage.  A disturbing juxtaposition of animal and human imagery is reminiscent of ancient monsters and myths.  Both creatures seem to be spliced together – one’s head on another’s body for example.  There is an explicit and implicit violence in the artwork as well.  In this vein, Alessandrini’s artwork tackles very modern issues of the body, nature, and food.  Though his work has a common theme and style, Alessandini’s scale widely varies from intimate work on paper, to larger murals and installations covering every wall in a room.
