Preview: Marco Mazzoni’s “White Days” at Gallery B15

Marco Mazzoni (previously featured on the cover of Hi-Fructose Vol. 20) is captivated by the point in history where Pagan traditions began to be subsumed by the Christian faith. His elaborate, colored-pencil drawings capture a feminine personification of nature, alluding to the female healers and midwives persecuted in the Middle Ages. This month, the artist is returning to Gallery B15 in Islands Brygge, Denmark, the first gallery he showed in outside of his native Italy, for his solo show, "White Days." Read more after the jump.

His elaborate, colored-pencil drawings capture a feminine personification of nature, alluding to the female healers and midwives persecuted in the Middle Ages. This month, the artist is returning to Gallery B15 in Islands Brygge, Denmark, the first gallery he showed in outside of his native Italy, for his solo show, “White Days.”

The show will include new Moleskine drawings as well as Mazzoni’s largest work to date: a re-intepretation of the Pieta (the depiction of Mary with the body of Christ commonly seen in Catholic art). “The human subject is a representation of the ‘Pieta,’ but not like the Catholic Pieta (the mother and the death child) but like a return to the nature,” commented Mazzoni. “This is why the person who is holding the body doesn’t have the head: it is not a human mother but the nature mother.” “White Days” opens February 21. Take a look at some work from the show below.
