Steven Kenny’s Surreal Portraits

Steven Kenny, an artist based in St. Petersburg, Fl, creates portraits that are a devout homage to old-school portraiture and the bizarre. His surreal landscapes pair strange details such as men or women wearing inventive, 17th-century-inspired attire or dangerous animals in the presence of royal-looking children, creating seemingly-dysfunctional juxtapositions that allude to dreamlike imagery. It seems as if Kenny purposely installs these in his artwork in order to intrigue, but most importantly, trigger memories or ideas of dream scenarios.
