If these drawings by Spain based artist Jaume Montserrat feel surreal, it is no coincidence. These strange specimens are indeed the product of a dream. On a flight home to Barcelona from South America, Montserrat dreamt of existing alongside a Noah’s Ark-like collection of animals. One of each and asexual, he describes the animals as empty and immortal. Each animal was helpful to the other, often smaller ones taking refuge from the wind in larger ones. His ink and paper drawings reflect this, depicting the creatures hollow and unwrapping similar to an orange peel, a surreal dismantling of various beings.
