French photographer Stephane Bienfait creates highly manipulated images that appear erotic at a first glance, but quickly spiral out of control like a rapid descent into madness. Interested in the similarities between painting and photography, Bienfait’s works have a satin-like finish with their dim lighting and dull reflections. His models writhe and struggle, as if literally fighting with themselves, as they tear at their stockings and tangle themselves in the sheer fabric. Their movements become metaphors for raging internal conflicts.
