As Basel Week approaches, the art world goes into a frenzy as galleries and artists prepare for the dozens of art fairs and events that take place December 2-8 in Miami. To help readers navigate the madness, we have prepared several previews that can serve as guides for Basel Week. Today, we’ll look at some highlights from Scope (open to the public December 4-8), the art fair hosting a handful of galleries that will be familiar to regular visitors of our blog (Spoke Art, Thinkspace, Copro Gallery, Parlor Gallery and Corey Helford Gallery to name a few) as well as international offerings from art spaces like Shirin Gallery in Teheran, BLANK SPACE from New York City, Fifty24MX of Mexico City and many others.

While the art fair varies greatly in range of genre, Scope includes a plentitude of pop surrealism, street art and new contemporary art. Dan Quintana will be showing his ethereal, ghostly portraits with Copro Gallery while Parlor Gallery’s booth will be adorned with the otherworldly chandelier sculptures of Adam Wallacavage. Scott Hove’s monstrous cake sculptures bare their teeth at Spoke Art, Naeemeh Kazemi examines the cultural contexts of clothing at Shirin Gallery, Michael Johansson plays tetris with furniture for The Flat – Massimo Carasi and Nychos dissects cartoon characters for Mighty Tanaka. Take a look at our preview images from just some of the multitudes of galleries that will be exhibiting Scope and stay tuned for more previews coming to you this week and dispatches from Miami next week.
