As technology becomes an increasingly integral part of our identities – we delegate tasks our brains once performed to our smart phones, alter our appearances through products and surgeries, et cetera — the concept of the cyborg comes closer to science than science fiction. TETEM Art Space in Enschede, Netherlands has an upcoming group show, “Hybrid Skins,” that probes shifting attitudes in regards to technology and genetics.
Comprised mostly of video work, the diverse exhibition draws from the artists’ backgrounds in design, fashion and artificial intelligence to present different perspectives on the future of appearance and mind-altering technologies. Participating artists include Anouk Wipprecht and Daniel Schatzmayr; Jalila Essaïdi; Local Androids; Lucy McRae; Nancy Tilbury (Studio XO), Bart Hess, Harm Rensink, Clive Van Heerden, Jack Mama and Peter Gal; Philips; Anna Dumitriu; Marieka Ratsma and The Verge. “Hybrid Skins” will be on view October 10 through November 24.
