Based in Switzerland, Chinese-born artist Qiu Jie creates painstakingly detailed pencil drawings, layering multitudes of text and pop culture-derived images in collage-like compositions. Drawing from both Chinese and Western culture, the work mixes militarism with material excess, taking the familiar and making it absurd. Qiu Jie has a solo show coming up at Art Plural Gallery in Singapore that will be on view September 13 through October 26.
