Preview: Alvaro Ilizarbe’s “Surveying” at Martha Otero Gallery

Working with gouache or acrylic on panel, Alvaro Ilizarbe creates meticulous, miniscule landscapes stroke by stroke. The paintings are left quiet, simple. Ilizarbe is listening closely, anticipating the slow movements of the Earth’s tectonic plates with his paintbrush. The artist will debut his solo show, “Surveying,” at Martha Otero Gallery in Los Angeles on August 10. The new body of work features paintings on panels shaped like tectonic plates and a site-specific installation. Take a look at some of Alvaro Ilizarbe’s new work for the show below.
