Coming up at Los Angeles’s Merry Karnowsky Gallery, Edward Walton Wilcox‘s new show, “The Gilded Tantrum,” is a series of quiet, ambient artworks that cultivate an atmosphere of mystery. Wilcox hides unforeseen characters within idyllic, open landscapes, blending a Romanticist’s reverence of nature with an invitation to examine the instinctual fear of the unknown. Monster characters lurk in the shadows of Wilcox’s forests, barely visible, as if they were the figments of a paranoid explorer’s imagination. “The Gilded Tantrum” opens this Saturday, June 27, and will be on view through August 24.
