New, Surreal Drawings by Mirka Lugosi

Playing with the idea of deviant sexuality, the drawings of French artist Mirka Lugosi (featured in Hi-Fructose Vol. 24) often take sinister turns as the artist takes us into sparsely populated forests and empty rooms with nude, hooded figures. Since we featured him in the magazine, Lugosi has created a new series. While continuing to work in a monochromatic palette, Lugosi's new drawings show more experimentation with color. Black and white scenes mix with colorful elements on the same page in a cinematic style, almost like a flashback in a movie. Lugosi recently showed some of his new drawings at the festival Drawing Now Paris, which just ended on April 14. Take a look at some of Mirka Lugosi's works after the jump, images courtesy of the artist.

(Above: Drone photo by stephan pruitt/fiasco media) We are living in even stranger times. Less than two years ago, New Mexico painter Anthony Hurd completely changed the subject matter depicted in his paintings, focusing on themes which related to the artist on a more personal level. While Hurd’s graphic paintings of dynamic skulls were quite popular, his painterly depictions of male figures having intimate moments are simple and powerful. See the full video here!
