Though they differ in thematic content, Xue Wang and Leslie Ditto both create microcosms of doll-like characters in their dark, surreal paintings. The two artists will be showing new bodies of work at Copro Gallery on February 23 for their individual yet complementary solo shows. Wang’s “Time off for Good Behavior” is a humorous series of paintings that depict classically lady-like women engaging in diabolical behavior that crosses the line from childish to malicious. Ditto’s “Humanity Lost” focuses on humans’ attempt to control nature with its stylized, anthropomorphic depictions of animals in captivity.
