Preview: Colin Chillag’s “Portraits” at 101/exhibit

Phoenix, Arizona-based painter Colin Chillag (featured in Hi-Fructose Vol. 19) has an upcoming solo exhibition at Los Angeles’ 101/exhibit titled “Portraits” opening on January 19. Melding abstract and realistic styles seamlessly, Chillag’s new works are based on personal snapshots that examine his daily experiences and his love of learning. His characters are caught in private moments — whether it be a contemplative glance or a laugh with friends — that appear to speak volumes about their personalities. The paintings veer into surreal territory as faces become distorted and mysterious characters are spotted in the distance. Take a look at our preview of the exhibition, images courtesy of 101/exhibit.
