Mike Davis, whose latest work we recently caught a glimpse of at Varnish Fine Art‘s booth at CONTEXT Art Miami (previewed here), paints surreal scenes imbued with medieval imagery. Opting for a smooth, realist painting style evocative of Bosch and other Northern Renaissance artists, Davis creates works that deal with occult subjects, subverting war scenes and religious portraits with giant eggs, animal-human hybrids, bloody limbs and other incongruous elements. These features melt into paintings that balance chaos with an illustrative quality that alludes to an underlying myth or story.
