AJ Fosik’s “Lamplighter to the Promised Land” Opening Night

Last weekend, Hi-Fructose Vol. 18 cover artist AJ Fosik (see our studio visit here) debuted a new body of work at San Francisco’s Guerrero Gallery titled “Lamplighter to the Promised Land.” Full of geometric neon creatures and monsters, the show tackles the concept of ritual and belief, elevating the strange beasts on pedestals and displaying them in mandala-like compositions. Self-taught in woodcarving techniques, Fosik builds, paints and varnishes the creatures by hand — their repeating patterns are reminiscent of folk art forms with a futuristic bend.
