New York street art collective FAILE (featured in Hi-Fructose Vol. 18) recently traveled to Mongolia to create Wolf Within, a collaboration with Mongolian artist Batmunkh in Ulaanbaatar’s National Garden Park. Initiated by Tiger Translate, an organization that connects Western and Eastern artists, in conjunction with the Mongolia Arts Council, the collaboration followed FAILE’s successful trip to Shanghai. Based on an original screen print by FAILE, the idea for Wolf Within was initially a reaction to the financial crisis in the U.S. The artists adapted this idea to the sculpture, giving the image a new message that speaks to maintaining a balance between traditional culture and economic growth in Mongolia. After bouncing ideas back and forth with FAILE, Batmunkh created the 5-meter tall sculpture out of fiber glass. Take a look at some images of the work below.
