Paco Pomet Clashes Cartoons with Photo-Realism in his Latest Works

Since we introduced Paco Pomet's work on our blog over a year ago, the artist has been developing his style to include cartoonish motifs, departing from the more traditional surrealism we first saw and diving headlong a world where illustrations invade his photo-realistic paintings. As if disrupted by cartoon explosions and storms of exaggerated peanut clouds (and the occasional cartoon character), the realistic scenes he renders in the style of antique photographs become overtaken by an imaginary world. Take a look at some of his latest works, images courtesy of Paco Pomet.

Explaining an image could break the illusive spell on a viewer with preconceived notions, or at the very least be a distraction to a genuine experience. Nevertheless, it’s a job of a publication like ours to try to probe a bit further, to unearth subtle intentions or points of discussion. So let’s ask Shane Pearce about his ten new paintings, entitled “Eerie Musings”, which goes on view at Copro Gallery in Santa Monica this Saturday.
