Preview: Stephen Powers’ “A Word is Worth a Thousand Pictures”

by Nastia VoynovskayaPosted on

Known for his love of subtly subversive combinations of writing and images, Stephen “ESPO” Powers will open his solo show, “A Word is Worth a Thousand Pictures” at New York’s Joshua Liner Gallery on September 6. The socially-conscious works in the show appear to stem from Powers’ engagement with the public in his ongoing street art project, Love Letter, which attempts to connect the residents of various cities through universal, poetic phrases. Powers’ new work for his solo show carries a similar community spirit, with phrases that echo today’s recession-era political climate and societal temperament. Take a look at some of the works in the show, images courtesy of Joshua Liner Gallery.
