Faring Purth Solo Show Opening Night

by Nastia VoynovskayaPosted on

Last Friday, the San Jose, CA gallery Anno Domini opened the solo show of rising artist Faring Purth, who we introduced earlier this summer. Accustomed to working in a large scale for her murals, the artist created many oversized oil paintings that subtly played with color. Each painting features a portrait of an other-worldy, crane-necked woman cobbled together with organic, gestural marks that blend into a kaleidoscopic mixture of dark yet iridescent shades. As if refusing to stay within the lines of the canvas, Purth continued her marks onto the gallery walls, making the small-scale works in the show part of a larger vision. Take a look at opening night photos by Peter Hinson.
