Combining 19th-century portraiture with a sci-fi sensibility, Travis Louie‘s graphite drawings of monsters have a unique aesthetic that is whimsical in content and sophisticated in form. We featured Louie in Hi-Fructose Vol. 5 and in our second Collected Edition, and the artist due to open his new solo show “Spirits” at Stranger Factory in Albuquerque, NM on August 3. In the new series, Louie develops a series of vignettes through his portraits; each work contains subtle visual clues that elucidate a story of haunting poltergeists and ghosts.
