Mike Giant’s “Confessions of an Old Dirty Skateboarder”

Last Friday at San Francisco’s Fecal Face Dot Gallery, Mike Giant opened his solo show “Confessions of an Old Dirty Skateboarder” to an anxious crowd that had been lining up outside the gallery for hours in anticipation of the event. A testament to Giant’s love of skateboarding and tattoo culture, the show featured a wall completely lined with skate decks designed by Gaint (including works ranging from his early days to new pieces), as well as tattooed portraits and line drawings. Using heavy line work, Giant’s iconic style blends Mexican and Indian folk art with gritty surrealism, skating and hip-hop references and a witty sense of humor. Take a look at some opening night photos by Hawa Arsala.
