Monique Ligons’ Biblical Insectarium

Inspired by classical scenes found within the Bible and Dante's Inferno, Philadelphia based Monique Ligons' new series, Biblical Insectarium, depicts biblical figures and villains as insects; Jesus appears as divine praying mantis while Judas, rendered as a large scorpion, bends to give him the infamous kiss. The intense subject matter is offset by the device of the use of insects, and yet through the meticulous attention to detail they are unexpected illuminations of timeless subject matter.
